Obernolte Votes Against January 6 Commission
May 20, 2021

The bipartisan bill passed the House anyways

In a 252-175 vote, the House of Representatives voted to start a commission to investigate the events around the January 6th insurreciton.

One of the congressmen voting against the resolution was CA-08's freshman representative, Jay Obernolte. No official statement has been made from his camp as to why he voted against the resolution.

When matched with his objections against the presidential election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania (one of his first actions as congressman), Obernolte has a voting history in line with supporting the ex-president and attempting to sweep actions performed by his supporters under the rug.

Obernolte has acknowledged that "Joe Biden is the duly elected and legitimate President-elect of the United States of America." He was endorsed by Donald Trump as the choice for CA-08, and defeated Democratic challenger Chris Bubser by a 12-point margin.
